9th Vermont Infantry Regimental Flag

Description

Regimental flag of the 9th Vermont Infantry Regiment. Blue silk with Vermont coat of arms painted on obverse and bald eagle with shield reading "9th Regiment Vermont Volunteers" on reverse. Has extant gold silk fringe, gold hand-knotted cords and 6 ties (for attaching flag to staff). Staff has "whale's tail" finial. Date issued: 1865. Made for 9th Vermont Infantry (their first flag was captured at Harper's Ferry). This flag would have been sent to Montpelier when the battalion was mustered out in December, 1865.

Hello - I love the digital collection - I am a modeler trying maake a miniature of this flag - can you please tell me what is on the REVERSE side of this and perhaps other regimental colors of Vermont?  thank you for your help

Unfortunately we don’t have images of the reverse of these flags and they are now very fragile; it would be difficult to flip them over.  We are displaying the more interesting side of the flags. I'm afraid that we don't know what is on the other side.
