This poster is unusual in its highly evocative and detailed appeal to Vermonters specifically. Burnell, the recruiting officer responsible for it, evoked the language and imagery of Vermont's earlier military heroes, the Green Mountain Boys, and encouraged young men of the current generation to take their part alongside Ethan Allen in glorious history.
